Tuesday 12 May

On Tuesday Joshua spent the whole day in NICU. NICU is on the third floor at St Peters Hospital. And remember Fi was checked into the Antenatal Ward ... on the first floor. Planning of this layout could have been better. So Fi spent Tuesday shuffling between the two floors trying hard not to miss meals - but more concerned not to miss the distribution of the little red pain relief pills and other necessary medication - which were all served to her bed on the first floor. But seeing Joshua overcame even the need for pain relief so most of the day was spent with him on the third floor.
One of Lionel and Fi's friends from their new church, Helen Morrow, came to visit on Tuesday afternoon. We had tea together in the Antenatal Ward and it was lovely to have some company. Helen brought us some lasagne she'd made and packed into individual portions. They were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo helpful because no-one fed Lionel while he was visiting Fi and he kept eyeing up her meals. Once Helen's lasagne arrived Fi's lunches and dinners were safe once more. It was also nice to chat about things other than babies and pain medication for a little while.
While Helen was visiting, Lionel's auntie, Liz (now "Grandma Liz"), and cousin, Charlie, visited as well so then we all went up to NICU to catch a little glimpse of the little boy. Liz, Charlie and Helen could only go into NICU one at a time with one of Joshua's parents so it was a bit of a revolving door for a little while but we managed.
Then Annie visited at the end of the day after she finished work. We were so glad to see her too and Fi even let her have Joshua for a few moments so Annie could get a brief cuddle :)
Lionel commented that our little boy's weight was probably the same as the combined weight of all the other premature babies in the NICU. It was a sobering thought for us. It wasn't nice to be separated from Joshua but there was much to be thankful for.
